I started laminating the coaming lip this week.  I'm using white pine strips, approx. 1/8" wide x 3/16" tall.

I've found that if I soak the strips in water for about an hour, they'll bend to the gentle curves of the coaming riser without having to heat them with a heat gun.  I've acquired a 3/4" diameter PVC pipe, on which I've glued a cap on one end, and just stuck a cap on the other end.  I've filled the pipe with water, and it'll soak three or four strips at once with no problem.

I clamp them in place on the coaming riser, and let them dry for a few hours before removing them and gluing them in place.

Note the 45º beveled edge of the strips - just enough to align them nicely with the next.

I need more clamps.  I keep saying that, and the wife keeps saying I don't.  What you don't see in the pic is a pile of perhaps 45-50 more clamps of various designs, sizes, and shapes.  Perhaps she's right, but I doubt it.
